Port Macquarie Youth Housing

My Foundations Youth Housing

Architecture

My Foundations Youth Housing (MFYH) is a youth housing provider focused on increasing the supply of affordable and social housing that meets the developmental needs and aspirations of young people. MFYH was able to secure a large site in the heart of Port Macquarie to provide critical needed youth housing on NSW mid-north coast.

To secure funding to develop the site, MYFH were in need of Concept Design plans to investigate the development potential of the site & support their fundraising efforts.

VIGILANTI was proud to support MFYH in realising this project through our feasibility investigation & concept design services. Incorporating our design proposal, MFYH were successful in their grant application & secured $5 million in grant funding to realise the project.

Architecture

Initially, MFYH was unclear in what they wanted on the site, envisioning a few town houses only. However, seeing as this is a rare opportunity to provide desperately needed youth housing in regional NSW, we took the initiative to investigate & compare a number of development scenarios to maximise the potential yield while meeting MYFH services provision needs.

We took the initiative to explore three different design options to maximise the potential usability of the site, including:

  • Townhouses Only Option
  • RFB apartments Only Option
  • A mix of townhouses & boarding house Option

Ultimately, MFYH chose the unexpected mixed townhouses & boarding house option as it delivered the highest number of homes, 20 villas & 18 boarding house rooms, & also the most suitable housing mix for their clientelle.
